Why MMA Helps Kids’ Performance With Other Sports Martial arts is a good activity to start up for many reasons. If your child plays other sports, it is a good idea to take them up on martial arts. Martial arts has many benefits that will carry through with other sports.

Focus and listening- During our program, the children learn how to pay attention and focus on the task they have to complete. At this age, their attention span is small, so it is important that we work on improving their listening skills and paying attention to instructors.
Teamwork- Your child will learn how to work and cooperate with others, which improves their social skills as well. In our programs, each child has a partner, so they’re always working with others. This is important when involved in a team sport.

Coordination- While learning martial arts, children’s coordination improves along with their motor skills. This will improve your child’s health overall, and physical coordination that is important for all sports. All the martial arts classes we offer involve having coordination and good motor skills, so those things will improve as they continue on.

Confidence- Many people say confidence is key. Confidence is a belief a person has about their ability to execute a specific task successfully. When training MMA, you gain confidence in yourself which is important to have in any sport. Once you have confidence, your overall performance improves because you believe that you’re able to accomplish something. In our program, there is a promotion system where the children get promoted to a higher rank belt if the instructor and parent believes he or she is ready. This gives the child confidence knowing he or she has accomplished something. This confidence they gained will appear in their performance with other sports as well.

Anger is an emotion that every human has to deal with. But, an angry person can get out of control and cause harm or danger to others. It can lead to serious problems throughout your life that will affect your relationship with your friends, family, and everyone around you. When anger or fear controls someone, that person tends to make decisions that are not rational which causes them to be stressed frequently.

Martial arts is a popular method that people use to help control their emotions. It is one of the best ways to reduce stress and tension within a person’s body. It teaches you discipline and most importantly self-control. Although you are learning skills that can give you the capability to harm others, you learn to become more patient. Many martial arts students don’t get involved in physical altercations with other people and have not their entire lives. After a few training sessions, you already feel like a calm individual and a lot of the anger that you have would be released during training. The point is not to hide your emotions and pretend they don’t exist, but to channel them into a healthy activity that benefits you in many ways then just anger management. During martial arts classes you focus on growth and positive things and that tends to leave with you when you step out of the ring or class.

When your stress is reduced, so is your anger and that contributes to your quality of living. It is easier to maintain positive relationships and people will want to be around you more. If you or someone you know suffers with anger issues, check out Precision MMA at or call us at (845)-392-8495

Students from all walks of life train at Precision MMA in LaGrangeville, NY.  However, often times women worry that training MMA will be too intimidating or that they won’t be welcome at Precision.  In fact nothing could be further from the truth, many women have benefited from the training at Precision MMA, but don’t take my word for it.  Here is a review of Precision MMA from college student Kristen Wichtendahl who takes part in Precision’s BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA classes.

“The coaches are very helpful, friendly, and will work with you to help you reach your goals. They have a lot of experience and are passionate about the art they are teaching, making it easier for students to learn. I didn’t expect to be there as much as I was, but after the first few classes I was addicted and would rather train here than anywhere else. The people are very friendly and make excellent training partners since they are always willing to help you with anything you don’t understand or something you just want to practice. I got a great work out and I always learned something new. I still go back to Precision when I am on breaks and I look forward to coming home just so I can train” – Kristen Wichtendahl

MMA Tampa head coach Matt Arroyo is originally from upstate New York, but moved down to Tampa after meeting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and Gracie Tampa founder Rob Kahn.  Matt began taking his MMA Tampa training very seriously and started flying through the belt levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  At purple belt Matt accomplished a stunning feat by submitting one of the top BJJ black Belts in all of Florida Edson Diniz.  Edson is a former world champion and by earning that submission victory Matt proved that he belonged at the top of the MMA Tampa ladder.

Matt then took his training to another levels and entered the world of professional mixed martial arts.  After earning a few victories on the local Tampa MMA scene he tried out for the big leagues.  Matt was selected as a cast member on the 6th season of the Ultimate Fighter.  Matt quickly showed that his Tampa MMA success was no fluke as he earned multiple head turning victories and secured a spot on the live UFC finale.  Matt made the most of this opportunity and earned submission of the night honors as he secured an armbar victory.

Although Matt found great success as a fighter he decided his true passion lie in instructing.  Matt opened an MMA gym in South Tampa – Gracie Tampa South.  Hundreds of Floridians are learning Matt’s style of world class Mixed Martial Arts in a safe and fun environment.  His gym even offers an incredible 30 Day FREE Trial.  For a sample of Matt’s BJJ Tampa teaching ability CLICK HERE

Martial arts gyms are not all created equal, and this is especially the case when it comes to kids’ classes. Kids today need role models and incentives which let them know every step of the way that they are on the correct path. Often a child might not see the reasons for working hard in school or doing their chores for example. They also may not yet have the life experience to realize that true achievement requires sacrifice. Precision MMA in the Hudson Valley has a kids’ martial arts program which takes all these factors into account and prides itself on creating young martial artists who are not only skilled in the styles we teach, but who are also on their way to becoming well rounded adults and contributing members of society.

Precision Mixed Martial Arts Kid’s Program in the Hudson Valley area of New York teaches a number of different styles to both children and adults, ranging from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Wrestling to Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing and Muay Thai Kickboxing. However, our kids’ classes stand out from any others in the area, even those which might teach the same styles, in that ours promote focus and discipline in the child’s life outside of the atmosphere of the dojo. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in particular, kids tend to want very badly to be promoted to their next belt and are always eager to impress their instructor. While other martial arts’ schools might award the child with a belt simply for being ready in terms of their skill set in Jiu-Jitsu, at Hudson Valley’s  Kids Martial Arts at Precision’s belts are only awarded to a child under a number of conditions. First of all, the child must have at least a B-average in school, and he must prove this to the head instructor by showing him his latest report card. While some might feel this to be a strict condition for promotion, we have seen it have outstanding results. Let’s face it, kids often do not enjoy school and often see no reason for doing their homework. They are told that good grades are important, but they need positive reinforcement when they get good grades, rather than punishment, in order to truly see the reason for their studying. When a child achieves a new belt which he knows he has earned by both being a good student in school and a good martial arts’ student, he feels that all his studying has been worthwhile and becomes eager to continue working hard in school to get his next belt.

Another condition for belt promotion at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley is that the child is doing their chores at home and learning the value of being a contributing member of their family. Most often children are not all that eager to do their chores and just like with their grades in school it is essential that the child have strong incentives to do those things at home which might seem boring or unimportant to them. Since belt promotion at Precision is also conditional upon the parent’s consent that the child is doing his daily chores , each time the child earns a new belt he is not only making himself happy by improving his Jiu-Jitsu skills, he is also making his parents happy by lending them a hand around the house.

Finally, perhaps the most important requirement for belt promotion in the kids’ Jiu-Jitsu classes is that they perform some sort of community service, such as giving food to the homeless or working at a dog shelter for example. Over time, this requirement makes the child a contributing member of society and enables them to see the bigger picture and realize that their good actions have a tangible effect upon others outside their immediate friends and family. As a whole, the belt requirements at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley make disciplined adults out of children one belt at a time. Through the combination of community service, reinforced studying in school, helping with chores around the house and working on their Jiu-Jitsu techniques, the children in our kids’ classes become not only great martial artists, but better students, more attentive sons and daughters and more helpful members of society. With each belt they achieve they will see themselves improving, not only on the mat, but in life as a whole. As a parent you’d be doing your child a great service to enroll him or her at Precision MMA’s Hudson Valley Kid’s Martial Arts Program.

Dutchess County MMA

Dutchess County Jiu JItsu

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a grappling martial art that barrows strategies, techniques and principles from a wide array of arts and backgrounds.  The very best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools have a curriculum that reflects the diverse array of techniques and applications of this amazing art.  In Dutchess County the school that stands head and shoulders above the competition is Precision Mixed Martial Arts in LaGrangeville, NY.

Precision’s Jiu-Jitsu program takes a holistic approach to teaching the gentle art.  The classes in our Dutchess County facility are equally split between gi, or kimono, classes and no-gi (shorts and t-shirt) sessions.  The gi is important in terms of self defense since students learn how to deal with an attacker grabbing their clothing.  Additionally, they learn to use an attacker’s own clothes against them by manipulating them into a myriad of throws and chokes.  The gi also allows more attacking options making for a slower and more technical art form.  No-gi classes are equally important though.  During the warm weather months an attacker may not have attire that can be grabbed or manipulated.  Also, training without the gi makes things more slippery, requiring students to sharpen and tighten their attacks in order to be successful.  Students who aspire to compete in mixed martial arts competition will benefit from the no-gi jiu-jitsu training as well since all MMA bouts are contested shirtless.  Precision MMA is one of the only jiu-jitsu schools in Dutchess County that equally distributes their classes between gi and no-gi.

Another major benefit that Precision brings to the Dutchess County Jiu-Jitsu scene is the element of throws, trips, wrestling and takedowns.  It should be obvious that a grappling based martial arts should include takedowns, but sadly many jiu-jitsu schools across Dutchess County completely neglect them.  By focusing solely on the ground without having the means to bring the fight there they are giving students a false self of security.  Like having a high powered rifle without any ammunition – ground fighting is only as effective as your takedowns.  As a result, Precision trains takedowns daily.  All grappling begins on the feet, just as any real fight does.  Additionally, Precision has brought in some of the top wrestlers and judo black belts in Dutchess County to fill in the gaps in the takedown game.  Jiu-Jitsu fighters are widely known for having less than stellar takedowns compared to Judokas and wrestlers, but at Precision we get the best of both worlds.  Elite ground fighting with incredible throws and wrestling all under one Dutchess County roof.

If you live in or around Dutchess county and have always dreamed of training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you have a unique opportunity before you.  Precision MMA is now offering a 30 Day FREE Trial for it’s Dutchess County Jiu-jitsu classes.  To get started call 845-392-8495 or visit to get started today on your Dutchess County Jiu-Jitsu journey.

Poughkeepsie Martial Arts School for Children

Dutchess County Kid’s Martial Arts

A good kid’s martial arts’ program in Dutchess County should offer more than just strategies for competition and self-defense.  While this is, of course, the core of what martial arts’ training is usually about, a school with quality instructors like Precision MMA in Dutchess County, New York should strive to better its students in terms of their overall character, not just their fighting skills.  When it comes to kids’ programs in particular, many Martial Arts gyms forget the importance of this idea and teach the children in the same way they teach the adults, not realizing that kids these days are in desperate need of role models and positive reinforcement.  Precision MMA’s kid’s martial arts program in Dutchess County sets itself apart from these other gyms by focusing on its kids’ programs as separate entities and trying hard to instill good values in the younger generations.

Many kids’ martial arts’ instructors  in Dutchess County, New York treat the children just as if they were smaller adults: they consider their training on the mat to be separate from all their other endeavors in life and teach them that their training ends when they leave the dojo.  What they fail to realize is that adults have already gone through a maturing process that kids have not yet undergone.  Adults who train martial arts usually do so at the end of a long work day.  They have already finished school, have given back to their communities in various ways and many have families.  As such, they have less need for positive role models who can help them to further their stations in life as they already have their priorities in check.  However, kids who do martial arts in Dutchess County, New York are no different than most: they would rather play video games than do their homework, they see no reason for doing community service and they are often not rewarded properly for getting good grades in school.  At Precision MMA in Dutchess County our Kid’s Martial Arts’ instructors offer incentive for students doing well in school.  For example, all students who make it onto the honor rule are given free private lessons with one of our Brown Belt instructors.  This gets kids excited about working harder in school because they know that if they get better grades they will in turn get better at Jiu-Jitsu by learning new techniques.

Not only this, but our head kid’s martial arts instructor in Poughkeepsie, Brian McLaughlin, has certain conditions which kids must meet outside of the dojo in order to earn their next belt.  Not only must their skills on the mat be up to par, but the child must also have a high enough grade average at whatever school they are attending, they must do monthly community service, and their parents must attest to the fact that they have been doing their chores at home properly.  All these conditions benefit the kids in more ways than simply making them good at martial arts. While training, the child also improves his work ethic in school, which will eventually enable him to get into a better college and land a better career, while simultaneously learning the value of helping others through community service, and improving his family life by helping out with tasks at home.

As such, kid’s martial arts programs at Precision MMA in Dutchess County transform kids into well rounded adults.  This puts our kids’ programs head and shoulders above the rest, and makes parents more likely to enroll their children knowing that we have more to offer than your typical dojo.  Our instructors are role models who instill proper values in children which will eventually lead them to be better adults and better human beings, not just better martial artists.

Precision Mixed Martial Arts is currently offering a 30-day FREE trial to all new kids who are joining our martial arts program.  Enroll your child at Dutchess County’s best kid’s martial arts program today to help them build confidence, get into shape, and become productive members of society.  To find out more, give us a call at 845-392-8495 or drop in at 1097 Route 55, Lagrangeville, NY 12540.
