Students from all walks of life train at Precision MMA in LaGrangeville, NY.  However, often times women worry that training MMA will be too intimidating or that they won’t be welcome at Precision.  In fact nothing could be further from the truth, many women have benefited from the training at Precision MMA, but don’t take my word for it.  Here is a review of Precision MMA from college student Kristen Wichtendahl who takes part in Precision’s BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA classes.

“The coaches are very helpful, friendly, and will work with you to help you reach your goals. They have a lot of experience and are passionate about the art they are teaching, making it easier for students to learn. I didn’t expect to be there as much as I was, but after the first few classes I was addicted and would rather train here than anywhere else. The people are very friendly and make excellent training partners since they are always willing to help you with anything you don’t understand or something you just want to practice. I got a great work out and I always learned something new. I still go back to Precision when I am on breaks and I look forward to coming home just so I can train” – Kristen Wichtendahl

Martial arts gyms are not all created equal, and this is especially the case when it comes to kids’ classes. Kids today need role models and incentives which let them know every step of the way that they are on the correct path. Often a child might not see the reasons for working hard in school or doing their chores for example. They also may not yet have the life experience to realize that true achievement requires sacrifice. Precision MMA in the Hudson Valley has a kids’ martial arts program which takes all these factors into account and prides itself on creating young martial artists who are not only skilled in the styles we teach, but who are also on their way to becoming well rounded adults and contributing members of society.

Precision Mixed Martial Arts Kid’s Program in the Hudson Valley area of New York teaches a number of different styles to both children and adults, ranging from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Wrestling to Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing and Muay Thai Kickboxing. However, our kids’ classes stand out from any others in the area, even those which might teach the same styles, in that ours promote focus and discipline in the child’s life outside of the atmosphere of the dojo. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in particular, kids tend to want very badly to be promoted to their next belt and are always eager to impress their instructor. While other martial arts’ schools might award the child with a belt simply for being ready in terms of their skill set in Jiu-Jitsu, at Hudson Valley’s  Kids Martial Arts at Precision’s belts are only awarded to a child under a number of conditions. First of all, the child must have at least a B-average in school, and he must prove this to the head instructor by showing him his latest report card. While some might feel this to be a strict condition for promotion, we have seen it have outstanding results. Let’s face it, kids often do not enjoy school and often see no reason for doing their homework. They are told that good grades are important, but they need positive reinforcement when they get good grades, rather than punishment, in order to truly see the reason for their studying. When a child achieves a new belt which he knows he has earned by both being a good student in school and a good martial arts’ student, he feels that all his studying has been worthwhile and becomes eager to continue working hard in school to get his next belt.

Another condition for belt promotion at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley is that the child is doing their chores at home and learning the value of being a contributing member of their family. Most often children are not all that eager to do their chores and just like with their grades in school it is essential that the child have strong incentives to do those things at home which might seem boring or unimportant to them. Since belt promotion at Precision is also conditional upon the parent’s consent that the child is doing his daily chores , each time the child earns a new belt he is not only making himself happy by improving his Jiu-Jitsu skills, he is also making his parents happy by lending them a hand around the house.

Finally, perhaps the most important requirement for belt promotion in the kids’ Jiu-Jitsu classes is that they perform some sort of community service, such as giving food to the homeless or working at a dog shelter for example. Over time, this requirement makes the child a contributing member of society and enables them to see the bigger picture and realize that their good actions have a tangible effect upon others outside their immediate friends and family. As a whole, the belt requirements at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley make disciplined adults out of children one belt at a time. Through the combination of community service, reinforced studying in school, helping with chores around the house and working on their Jiu-Jitsu techniques, the children in our kids’ classes become not only great martial artists, but better students, more attentive sons and daughters and more helpful members of society. With each belt they achieve they will see themselves improving, not only on the mat, but in life as a whole. As a parent you’d be doing your child a great service to enroll him or her at Precision MMA’s Hudson Valley Kid’s Martial Arts Program.

12076823-precision-frontPrecision Mixed Martial Arts prides itself on being an authentic mixed martial arts gym.  What exactly does that entail though?  It does not mean that we focus solely on competitive MMA.  Unfortunately, even many successful mixed martial arts gyms develop a style that is a sort of “Cliff Notes” version of the various martial arts disciplines.  They do not attempt to learn philosophies, strategies, nuances and essence of each individual art – but rather boil them down to a handful of techniques that allow them to be effective for competition.

Precision MMA takes a completely different approach.   Rather than jack-of-all-trade instructors we have specialists with intimate knowledge of each particular range of combat.  As a result our students walk away with a full understanding of the arts they choose to study.  This also allows students the option to keep their training as focused or broad as they see fit without sacrificing the core essentials of the martial arts.

This diverse blending under one roof allows Precision MMA students to achieve results many would consider impossible for an MMA academy.  This past weekend Precision MMA student Pat Daka won the New York State Golden Gloves – the most sought after amateur boxing tournament in the region.  All of the opponents Pat defeated came from pure boxing gyms.  These competitors were at facilities that were fully and entirely devoted to the art of boxing. However, Precision MMA fighters were able to defeat them because we do not cut corners in our boxing program.  Our coaches have over 50 combined boxing matches and trained along side some of the top boxers in the region.  Our facility has all essential ementies of a world class boxing gym – including a full sized boxing ring, jump ropes, heavy bags, uppercut bags, double-end and maze bags.  The only major difference is the boxing training reflects the martial arts attitude of discipline, respect and order rather than the informal rough and tumble nature of many urban boxing gyms.

The same weekend in which Pat was crowned golden gloves champion Precision student Hassan Kahn took home victories at a traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition.  Earning victories both with and without the kimono, Hassan showed that Precision MMA’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is complete and despite being a mixed martial arts academy can defeat opponents from BJJ exclusive academies.

Our Brazilian Jiu-jitsu program does not simply include the must have elements of the art, it improves upon them.  By bringing in Judo black belts and accomplished scholastic and Greco-Roman wrestlers Precision’s BJJ program adds diversity to its training techniques and methodologies.

The coming weeks will be busy ones at Precision as head coach Brian McLaughlin makes final preparations with UFC fighter Jim Miller as he prepares to fight Pat Healy.  Brian was hand-picked by Miller to help him improve his style of non-stop submission and striking attacks.

Precision MMA is the choice of UFC fighters, golden gloves champions and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu medalists – a true mixed martial arts gym that combines diversity with specialization.  Check them out for 30 days FREE call 845-392-8495 or visit http://bjjfighter.com

So, what did Precision MMA fighters do last year?  A lot!  That’s why Precision MMA is the best MMA gym in the Hudson Valley.

First we had Mike “Pantene” Piekarski step into the ring in his professional MMA debut. After five amateur fights and a laundry list of grappling and muay thai wins Pantene was ready for the big time. His opponent was Eric Moore, a well-rounded prospect who was unbeaten in the sport. The fight went down as the co-main event at Xtreme Caged Combat in Philadelphia, PA. After three back and for the rounds the fight went to the judges score card and Mike got his hand raised!  Way to rep the Hudson Valley, Mike!

The next fighter to step into the cage for Precision was Brian Barry. After tasting victory in amateur wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu competition Brian entered the cage at the Mid Hudson Civic Center for a muay thai bout. His opponent was game and used a strong jab and head kicks to try and keep Brian at bay. However, Brian’s intensity and conditioning were the difference, allowing him to get inside and punish his opponent en route to a decision victory!  Brian Barry shows that our Hudson Valley MMA program is one of the best in the area!

That same day Precision MMA in the Hudson Valley’s competitors took to the mats at Grapplers Quest in New Jersey. Hassan Kahn took home a gold medal while Erik Dziuk earned a bronze medal after some outstanding submissions. Chris Stanley put for a strong effort but fell short on points in his first match.

More recently Precision sent 4 competitors to NAGA (North American Grapplin Association) World Championship and walked away with 3 medals. Larry McCord took home 2nd place scoring some nice submissions in the process. Kevin Enkler grabbed 3rd place after some hard fought victories and Big Drew grabbed 1st place making it a great outing for Precision! AJ Taurone showed incredible technique, but ran into a tough competitor and lost on points. He showed great skill and composure in his matches though and is sure to learn and come back stronger.

I am very proud of all the Precision competitors who showed heart and skill in both their preparation and performances. The hard work has been paying off! The unique thing about Precision is the variety of disciplines in which we have excelled. Very few schools can boast wins in grappling, muay thai and mixed martial arts all in the same month – great job guys!

Precision MMA Expands to Become the Largest Poughkeepsie MMA Gym

If you haven’t noticed things are a little different around Precision.  No longer are we falling all over each other while rolling.  We now have a boxing ring, crash pads, pull up bars, benches, couches, surround sound and showers – in short, things have improved.  Undoubtedly, you’ve also noticed the change in the class structure.  Our instruction is no longer “one size fits all”.  Something that separates Precision from other Poughkeepsie MMA gyms is that instead, we have devised a thorough beginner curriculum for new students with focus on the fundamentals.  If you are just getting started these classes are designed to guide you by the hand through all the twists and turns of training. Rather than being “thrown to the wolves” the Poughkeepsie MMA classes emphasize proper technique, body positioning and strategy with less emphasis on sparring.  We also have more advanced classes which are specifically designed to challenge and excite the higher ranking students. This program will incorporate more unorthodox techniques with synergistic combinations and heavier emphasis on live training (sparring, rolling, ect.).  The intermediate program is the middle ground. Live training is included and a basic understanding is assumed, but the techniques are digestible for those still learning the ropes.  For grappling we hold off on the advanced classes until blue belt, for striking advancement is at the discretion of the sparring coaches (Karl, Derrick or Brian).  These changes may take some getting used to, but they will allow you to progress at the quickest and safest route possible.  Also, don’t forget to take advantage of your open mat time to drill the techniques learned during the week.  Now get to class!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has its foundations in one man.  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been passed along to many, and much has been added to this vast store of knowledge.  Every new mind that approaches this deeply fascinating art brings something new to it, as well as taking away valuable lessons.  This blend of solid foundation and constant evolution, of ancient and modern, has created the worlds greatest Martial Art for self-defense and life skills.  No other art has offered so much to a student.  No other art delivers on the promise of martial arts.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Helio Gracie was the founderHelio Gracie laid down the foundations in an interesting way.  Gracie observed his older brothers learning traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu.  He could not take part in the classes due to health concerns.  He was a small and frail child who wasn’t not going to develop into any sort of amazing physical specimen as a man.  What Helio Gracie lacked in natural physical prowess, he more than made up for in mental acuity.  His careful  study of the techniques his brothers were learning didn’t make itself  apparent for several years.  When it was finally revealed what Gracie had perfected, and in some cases invented, people flocked to his school.  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uses leverage and patience to beat your opponent.  Leverage enables a weaker opponent to beat a stronger opponent.  Patience allows a slower opponent to conserve energy and wait for the right moment to move on the faster opponent.  Indeed, Gracie made a career of winning no-holds-barred matches against fighters that were more physically gifted than him.  His contributions to the martial arts of second to none.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has grown from this already solid foundation.  It has incorporated so many other techniques from Greco-Roman Wrestling, Free Style Wrestling, Sambo and Judo.  It has had so many great minds add to it.  Rolls Gracie, Royler Gracie, Eddie Bravo, Jean-Jacques Machado, Marcelo Garcia and so many more have given so much to this amazing martial art.  They all bring something new to the table.  You can become apart of this long tradition of learning and growing through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is taught by our qualified staff and we offer a FREE 30 day trial and private lesson.  Give us a call at 845-392-8495, email us a precisionmma@gmail.com or click here.
