One of the most over looked failures of many attempts at fitness is what you do away from the gym.  It can be hard to remain conscious of goals at every moment of the day.  Diet and lifestyle choices outside of the gym often don’t match the effort put in at the gym.  Results become even more noticeable when you are motivated by multiple complementary goals.  If you want to lose weight to look better or be more fit you may very well achieve them.  If you want to lose weight for those reasons and you also want to lose weight for a competition or so that you can have better cardio or flexibility for training, the pounds will come off fast.  The subtle changes in motivation will make eating right into less of a burden and more of a lifestyle.
