Martial arts gyms are not all created equal, and this is especially the case when it comes to kids’ classes. Kids today need role models and incentives which let them know every step of the way that they are on the correct path. Often a child might not see the reasons for working hard in school or doing their chores for example. They also may not yet have the life experience to realize that true achievement requires sacrifice. Precision MMA in the Hudson Valley has a kids’ martial arts program which takes all these factors into account and prides itself on creating young martial artists who are not only skilled in the styles we teach, but who are also on their way to becoming well rounded adults and contributing members of society.

Precision Mixed Martial Arts Kid’s Program in the Hudson Valley area of New York teaches a number of different styles to both children and adults, ranging from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Wrestling to Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing and Muay Thai Kickboxing. However, our kids’ classes stand out from any others in the area, even those which might teach the same styles, in that ours promote focus and discipline in the child’s life outside of the atmosphere of the dojo. In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in particular, kids tend to want very badly to be promoted to their next belt and are always eager to impress their instructor. While other martial arts’ schools might award the child with a belt simply for being ready in terms of their skill set in Jiu-Jitsu, at Hudson Valley’s  Kids Martial Arts at Precision’s belts are only awarded to a child under a number of conditions. First of all, the child must have at least a B-average in school, and he must prove this to the head instructor by showing him his latest report card. While some might feel this to be a strict condition for promotion, we have seen it have outstanding results. Let’s face it, kids often do not enjoy school and often see no reason for doing their homework. They are told that good grades are important, but they need positive reinforcement when they get good grades, rather than punishment, in order to truly see the reason for their studying. When a child achieves a new belt which he knows he has earned by both being a good student in school and a good martial arts’ student, he feels that all his studying has been worthwhile and becomes eager to continue working hard in school to get his next belt.

Another condition for belt promotion at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley is that the child is doing their chores at home and learning the value of being a contributing member of their family. Most often children are not all that eager to do their chores and just like with their grades in school it is essential that the child have strong incentives to do those things at home which might seem boring or unimportant to them. Since belt promotion at Precision is also conditional upon the parent’s consent that the child is doing his daily chores , each time the child earns a new belt he is not only making himself happy by improving his Jiu-Jitsu skills, he is also making his parents happy by lending them a hand around the house.

Finally, perhaps the most important requirement for belt promotion in the kids’ Jiu-Jitsu classes is that they perform some sort of community service, such as giving food to the homeless or working at a dog shelter for example. Over time, this requirement makes the child a contributing member of society and enables them to see the bigger picture and realize that their good actions have a tangible effect upon others outside their immediate friends and family. As a whole, the belt requirements at Precision Mixed Martial Arts in the Hudson Valley make disciplined adults out of children one belt at a time. Through the combination of community service, reinforced studying in school, helping with chores around the house and working on their Jiu-Jitsu techniques, the children in our kids’ classes become not only great martial artists, but better students, more attentive sons and daughters and more helpful members of society. With each belt they achieve they will see themselves improving, not only on the mat, but in life as a whole. As a parent you’d be doing your child a great service to enroll him or her at Precision MMA’s Hudson Valley Kid’s Martial Arts Program.
